Hi all -
I'm just now reading the April 2002 issue of Certification Magazine, where
there is an article by John Venator (CEO of CompTIA). In the article (which
isn't posted on line - I looked) Mr. Venator says:
"When asked what the most important reasons for seeking certification are,
respondents [to their survey late last year] said:
- To increase compensation
- To find a job
- To improve productivity
- To increase job security"
"When the survey explored why we seek training, respondents said:
- To improve productivity
- To increase personal credibility
- To help prepare for the certification exam
- To increase compensation"
Other interesting items mentioned in his article....
"The majority of IT managers tell us through the survey that certification
leads to:
- Higher levels of service
- Competitive advantage
- Increased productivity"
However, Mr. Venator says:
"The survey found that managers believe certification leads employees to
leave for greener pastures. Yet 71 percent of those surveyed said they did
not leave their jobs after earning a certification."
While the article says you can see an "in-depth report on key findings of the
Training & Certification Study" at the comptia website, I dug around a bit
and didn't find it on the freely available part of the site, even using their
search engine.
