 1.  LPI- In Japan

 The Linux Conference 2002 took place in central Tokyo this past week;

 Here I am with some of our LPI-Japan test takers (see attachment).

 Thanks to LPI Japan, I was able to travel to Tokyo to participate in
 the first LPI-Japanese paper exams.

 We offered these exams in Japanese and in English and many people took
 advantage of the  discounted price.

 LPI-Japan is a vibrant well organized team who professionally represent
 LPI in Japan.
 If you would like to contact LPI-Japan, please write to Ninomiya Mizue.
 Ninomiya at lpi.or.jp  or check the LPI Japan website;
 htp://www.lpi.or.jp

 I found it interesting that the Suruga Bank of Japan offers better
 rates for those graduates who show successful completion of the LPI
 certification.
 Their website is in Japanese; http://www.surugabank.co.jp

 1.  LPI in Germany -  http://www.linuxworldexpo.de

 Evan Leibovitch (President of LPI) will attend the Linux World show in
 Frankfurt Germany at the end of October. If you are planning to
 attend, please visit us at the LPI booth, where you will find our
 friend and associate, Torsten Scheck along with Evan - discussing
 Linux and benefits of a certification.

We greatly appreciate the assistance of IBM and LinuxWorld Conference
& Expo Frankfurt in helping this offer happen.

***Evan and Torsten would like to speak to anyone interested in
re-starting the LPI-affiliate to be organized in Germany.
Please stop in at their booth and become involved.

2. Revised Level 1 Exams;

 As you know, LPI has rewritten the Level 1 exams and these are in
 beta at present.
 We are hoping some of you will take the beta exam, to help us reach our
 goal of releasing the exams from beta by November 2002.

 If you take the Level 1 beta exams, you will be scored as you take the
 exam, and the exam will count for the certification. If you take 1 old
 exam and 1 beta exam and pass both, you will still receive the
 certification.

 With the release of the new revision of Level 1 there are a few
 different objectives which should be studied.
 Please ensure you go through the objectives thoroughly;
 http://www.lpi.org/p-index.html

 Please note there is a new resource set up by some friends of LPI in
 the UK;
 They would like to offer this to help those studying for the new
 revision of the L1 exams.
 Please have a look and our thanks to the Gloucester LUG for this hard
 work.

 Also the site mentioned in last months news letter http://www.lpic.org
 might be of intereast to some candidates.

4. Training;

 For those of you still looking for courseware, books, classes, or
 on-line information – please check these two sites;

5. LPI-T-shirts

We'd also like to remind you to purchase an LPI Tshirt from Linux
Central. A portion of the cost of the T-shirt is retuned to LPI to
continue to  build the program.
