Linux Professional Institute appoints Regional Manager for Latin America
(Toronto, Canada: November 8, 2005) – The Linux Professional Institute
(LPI), (http://www.lpi.org), the world's premier Linux certification
organization announced the appointment of José Carlos Rodrigues Gouveia
as Regional Director of Latin America for LPI. José Carlos is a long
time senior executive within the IT sector in Latin America.
"We are very pleased that José Carlos has generously agreed to work with
LPI to advance our continued growth in the Latin American region. Those
familiar with LPI will know that Brazil has long been a leader within
our family of world affiliates. José Carlos' solid business
background in Brazil will ensure that we continue that tradition while
pursuing steady growth and market penetration throughout Latin America,"
said Jim Lacey, Chairman of the Office of the CEO and the Board of
Directors of the Linux Professional Institute. Mr. Lacey added that a
number of opportunities have recently developed throughout the Latin
America region which require a stronger LPI presence.
Before joining LPI, José Carlos worked the last five years for
SGI-Silicon Graphics as Area General Manager for Latin America. He has
also worked as a General Manager for Novell, Platinum Technologies,
PeopleSoft and J.D.Edwards in the region and as a director for
Anderson Consulting (Accenture) and Dun & Bradstreet Software.

for its commitment to promoting Linux and Open Source professionalism.
It has also been an important part of the larger adoption of Linux

effort at a time when the demand for Linux skills is rapidly growing
throughout Latin America," said José Carlos.
José Carlos is from São Paulo, Brazil and in addition to Portuguese, he
speaks English, Spanish and Italian. José Carlos holds a Bachelors
degree in Computer Science from the University of Campinas - UNICAMP
with a post-graduate degree in Marketing from PUC Rio de Janeiro
(Pontifical Catholic University). He was also a Professor of the
production engineering school at FEI – Faculdade de Engenharia
Industrial in Brazil.
José Carlos has a long history of industry leadership in the region
having worked in such cities as Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia
(Brazil), Bueonos Aires (Argentina), Caracas (Venezuela) and Mexico
City (Mexico). José Carlos has more than 20 years experience in senior
management and strategic positions working for software, hardware,
consulting and services companies. He has attended President's Clubs for
both SGI and J.D.Edwards and received numerous industry awards for
acheiving revenue and margin goals. Included amongst his outstanding
career service is the following:
- management of a 70+ person team in locations dispersed throughout the
region, generating revenues in excess of US $40 M annually and achieving
region-wide technology product leadership in the Petroleum exploration
and production sector
- management of a 50+ person team throughout Brazil to achieve US$ 25 M
revenues through innovative re-organization and channel strategies while
implementing new e-business solutions and strategic alliances
- management and execution of business and personnel transition during
the acquisition of a $1B year company
- start-up of a 30 person technology company resulting in more than US$
5 million revenues in the first year of operation and subsequently going
on to achieve more than US$30M per year in annual revenues
José Carlos as Regional Director for Latin America for the Linux
Professional Institute will focus on increasing LPI's partnerships and
alliances within the region's business community while ensuring the
ongoing marketing of LPI certification exams amongst candidates
throughout Latin America.
